“For every success we had a failure. ?But authentic reflection about what could have been done differently helped these thirteen-year-olds improve and mature as gardeners. ?It’s about giving the tools for support to let student’s explore on their own. ?Which is the best way for anyone, regardless of age, to approach any new interest because you never know what it will lead to.”~ Amanda Plocinski, Teacher
During the 2015/2016 school year teachers united to create an everlasting dream of a garden club and nutrition education program for their middle school. ?Montgomery?Middle School pulled together resources and funding for twenty-one very small raised garden beds and soil to start the program this past school year.
Teachers ignited excitement and passion in the community and created a safe place to learn about healthy eating, and where your food comes from. ?The teachers at Montgomery Middle school are excited to keep the momentum and education going in year 2 and turn our little garden into our big dream!
With the help of Healthy Planet and our community, we have the opportunity to raise $6,427.14 during our online?crowdfunding campaign for 20 new (and larger 🙂 raised garden beds, drip irrigation, and enough hand trowels, gloves, shovels, and other supplies to properly look after our garden. We have the leadership and student participation in place, now we just need your support to help grow our garden ‘bigger’ and continue teaching our students!
