“We are a small rural school and many of our families grow fruits and vegetables. We want to support the rural lifestyle of our students.” – Carmen Restrepo, Principal
We are a small school with 130 students. We never had a garden before, and we’re so excited to start this new project. While we are a small school, there is a lot of support from both the community and our staff for a new garden and to learn more about gardening. With our garden, we want to learn more about science, nutrition, water conservation and increasing community engagement.
Crest Elementary School has never had a garden before. Your donation would help us start one, creating more engagement between students, staff, and the local community! We are aiming to build 9 raised garden beds that are 4 feet by 8 feet; one for each class and 3 additional raised beds for three families to use in our pilot Family Garden Program. We’ll also be building a small compost area, and receiving enough garden tools for everyone to use! Additonally, our new garden program will incude garden-based lesson plans and a new Garden Collaborative.
With your help, our small school can take the first step towards having our own garden!
