A.M. Winn Public Waldorf eK-8, Sacramento California
“Gardening and cooking is part of our curriculum.” – Susan Scott, Teacher
Our Story
We’re transitioning from a traditional K-6 school to an?eK-8 school. We currently have some small garden boxes for our younger grades and a garden plot for the older students. All of our students receive their meals through the free/reduced lunch program, and we want to use our gardens to supplement our drive towards healthy eating. We also want to teach our students how gardening can relate to what they learn in class and build more community engagement. We want our students to know more about food production, nutrition, and food waste.
Your Help
We need your help! Healthy Planet and Soil Born Farms are helping us build seventeen 4 ft. x 8 ft. raised garden beds, along with providing us with new gardening tools, soil, and seeds. Each grade will have their own garden, with an additional 5 raised beds for a family garden area and 3 raised beds for a kitchen garden. We need your donation to help us reach this goal.
We’ll also be implementing new garden-based education and two garden clubs — including one that teaches the students how to design a business around the garden.
With your help, we can work towards a healthier lifestyle for our children!
