The World Cup 2014 has begun! And remember I mentioned I would be making some Brazilian foods/patriotic foods? Brigadeiro is also one of them.
Brigadeiro is a delicious and decadent sweet from Brazil. It is made with condensed milk, chocolate powder, and butter. How could you go wrong with these ingredients, right? But, the real yummy brigadeiro should be eaten occasionally.
In order to reduce the sugar content of this dessert, I made a healthier brigadeiro using milk, cocoa powder, chocolate chips, and half a banana. I guess you could also try it without the banana – which I want to try soon.
Healthier Brazilian Brigadeiro
3/4 cup of milk (I used dried milk dissolved in water)
1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup chocolate chips (I used dark choc chips)
1/2 mashed banana
optional: coconut, pecans, or almonds to roll the brigadeiro balls
1. Combine the first three ingredients in a saucepan under medium heat. Stir for at least 15-20 minutes for the mixture to concentrate.
2. Add the mashed banana and combine well. Cook for a few more minutes.
3. Pour brigadeiro on a plate and place it in the freezer for at least 15 minutes.
4. Make brigadeiro balls and roll them on coconut or nuts. It also goes really well with berries.
